Test Results

Tests requested by your GP

From time to time you may require blood tests, x-rays and other investigations and samples may be required for testing. If the results are abnormal and require further attention, the doctor will contact you by phone, letter or may even send a text message. If you have not heard from us seven working days after your test, you should contact the surgery to check to obtain the results.

We would encourage all of our patients to use the NHS App to review their test results where possible, alternatively you can request results by completing a form online or by phone.

These forms are open 7.00am - 3.00pm Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays

Some results can take longer to come through: cervical smear test results, x-ray results and ultrasound scans can take up to three weeks.

Tests requested by the hospital

As a general rule, when a Consultant orders a test (blood, x-ray, colonoscopy with biopsy, CT scan etc...) the results are sent back to them only, it is their responsibility to review the results and make the appropriate clinical decisions about the patients care. This means that all tests ordered by the hospital (even if the blood sample is taken at the health centre) will be managed at the hospital, the patient may be advised of the result by the hospital team via letter or at the next out-patient appointment. The test results are not automatically sent to the GP. The only exception to this is smear tests where the results are managed by the National Screening service.

If you are waiting for test results arranged by the hospital please do not contact the surgery but ring the hospital you are under. Please note the current waiting time for reporting of scans is estimated to be several weeks.

GPs requesting scans

Patients should be aware that GPs in Surrey can only organise x-rays and ultrasound scans. We are not authorised to arrange CT or MRI scans and these must be done by a Consultant which requires us to refer you to the appropriate specialist.
